The Meaning of the Two Trees in the Garden of Eden

Satan’s rebellion against God had a very precise focus. It was an insurrection against the eternal law of the universe, which is the very character of God. The Tree of Life and of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden are filled with meaning in the context of the war between the Creator and the Covering Cherub Lucifer.

Placed in the very midst of the Garden, the two trees symbolically represent the issues involved in the war (GR. polemos) between God and Satan. They are in the very "midst" of everything, and thus deserve our focus and attention. These two trees clear up the confusion that exists between God’s kingdom of agape love and Satan’s kingdom of good and evil, and gives credit to each where credit is due.

The Bible refers to this confusion as a veil that covers the people:

"And in this mountainThe Lord of hosts will make for all peopleA feast of choice pieces, a feast of wines on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of well-refined wines on the lees. And He will destroy on this mountain the surface of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations. He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; the rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; for the Lord has spoken" (Isaiah 25: 6-8).

"But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away" (2 Corinthians 3: 14-16). 

Through the study of the two trees in the Garden of Eden, Jesus Christ takes away the confusion that has existed about God’s true character of light, and clear His name from any participation in Satan’s kingdom of darkness, destruction, and death.
